Sturdy, high quality set of bike bags. Canvas is heavy, free of stains and odor. Leather was a bit stiff but a simple conditioning and it is like new. The leather straps are thick and trustworthy. It lays over the rack, and secures to each seat stay with the straps on both bags. The top strap can be used to secure a small pack or items such as a bed roll. The bags are medium sized, but can carry canteens of water, tools, or small amounts of grocery items like a US half gallon of milk with space to spare side to side. One of the best surplus buys I've made.
